Election Weeks Away and Gas Prices Plummet . . . Hmmmm.

Willing to place my tin-foil hat squarely on my head, I'll pose the question: Do falling gas prices have to do with the fact that a big election is only 40 days away?

Many would balk at the suggestion of price manipulation but let's go back to this little reminder from 2004:

Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, promised President Bush the Saudis would cut oil prices before November to ensure the U.S. economy is strong on election day, journalist Bob Woodward said in a television interview Sunday.
In an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes" about his new book "Plan of Attack" on the Bush administration's preparations for the Iraq war, Woodward, a senior editor at the Washington Post, said Prince Bandar pledged the Saudi's would try to fine-tune oil prices to prime the U.S. economy for the election -- a move they understood would favor Bush's re-election.

Now, if you get past the possibility that this could be happening, you have to ask yourself why it would happen.

Rather than spout off conspiracies, I'll let this recent Washington Post headline do it for me:

Voters warm to Republicans as gas prices fall

Okay, so now one last question remains: Do we even care that we get cheap gas for a few months so Republicans stay in power?

Wait, let me think about that one . . .

$1.99 per gallon for two months = preemptive war, national ID cards, increased tax burden, out of control government spending, bridges to nowhere, and general ignorance, arrogance and corruption of our government.

. . . no thanks, give me a bike and a Libertarian instead.
