    Canal Boat Ferris Wheel

This is Cool! Its a solution to a canal problem in Scotland. The connector between these canals was a series of locks that had to rise 80ft because of the difference in elevation between the canals. Originally this took a series of eleven locks. This innovation only takes the space of one lock. It reminds me of an enormous two-car "ferris wheel". Essentially, it is two gondolas that fill with canal water and are mounted at opposite ends of the "wheel". The boat enters and the wheel turns bringing the lower gondola with boat up and the upper godola down. Because water finds its own level the boats ride smooth and stay upright - This engineer must have been a real amusement park fan!!

Friday Funnie.... even tho its just Wednesday

    Morning Briefing

A colonel of Marines commanding an infantry regiment was about to start a morning briefing with his subordinates; battalion commanders, company commanders and staff. While waiting for the coffee to finish brewing, he decided to pose a question to all assembled. He explained that his wife had been a bit frisky the night before and, thus, he failed to get his usual amount of sound sleep. He then asked how much of sex was "work" and how much of was "pleasure."

    The discussion went like this:

The regiment's executive officer, a Major, chimed in with 75-25% in favor of work.

The company commander, a Captain, said it was 50-50%.

The Colonel's aide, a First Lieutenant and a bachelor, responded with 25-75% in favor of pleasure, depending on the state of inebriation of those involved.

There being no consensus, the Colonel sought the opinion of the only enlisted man in the room, an eighteen year old Private First Class (PFC) who was in charge of making the coffee. Without hesitation, the PFC responded, "Sir, it has to be 100% pleasure."

The Colonel, surprised at his rapidity of response, asked: "Why?"

"Well, Sir," began the PFC, "if there was any work involved, you officers would have me doing it for you ."

    The room fell silent.
